Front loading

Front loading is basically getting to have a little bit of knowledge of what is in the text they are going to be reading before they read it. It might be going over some vocab words just so that the students know what they mean when they come to it in the text and can comprehend them. This will save them time and allow them to fully know what is going on. I used the Fryer Model to help show a word that was in a test I had to read and it helped say what the word was and gave examples. It also showed them what the word would not be. This is a great idea because we do not want our students to stress or get overwhelmed or even lose interest and shut out of the whole lesson.

  1. I like the idea that frontloading allows students to know what is going on. It provides the information and vocab needed to comprehend what is going to be read or provided in a lesson.

  2. I like getting an introduction into what I am about to learn or do. No one likes to be "thrown to the wolves" or "go at things blindly", so giving your students extra information before starting a lesson or unit can be extremely helpful for them and can greatly increase their chances of succeeding.

  3. I think front loading will be a great skill to use and add into lessons as we begin teaching to help our students get the best prior knowledge that we can give them before throwing them into new things.I agree with you that we don't want the students to stressed or be overwhelmed; good point.
